The scenario

Our client was based in the Gulf with a large Multi-National Software company. He’d been promoted to a senior role which entailed more travel throughout the region. Despite working there for over 17 years he kept a home in Derbyshire, England as his wife and family decided to return to England over 9 years ago for schooling reasons.

As one of the children were now looking at going to university, they decided to look at remortgaging their property so that they could buy a flat to allow them to study there without having to take out a grant for accommodation and burdening their son with a debt once he’d graduated. The flat also had space for two other students to share and as such the payments from the rent more than covered capital and interest repayments.

By remortgaging their property, they were able to release decent amount of equity which allowed them to buy a flat in Durham and ensure they also had an investment as part of their retirement portfolio.

Our solution
